Sept 18th – Dynamic Voices in 21st Century Christianity, with Prof. Shively Smith

September 2, 2022

First Parish is hosting Prof. Shively Smith, Assistant Professor of New Testament at Boston University School of Theology as part of our new lecture series, Voices in 21st Century Christianity.

Prof. Smith’s presentation is titled “Interpreting the Story of Jesus’s Death: Reading with Howard Thurman & the African American Biblical Tradition” and will explore the Gospel story of Jesus’ death using diverse readings, including Howard Thurman.

(In advance of Prof. Smith’s presentation, we are inviting people to watch a fascinating documentary about Howard Thurman’s life and ministry called “Backs Against the Wall: The Howard Thurman Story”; the screenings will be on Sunday, Sept. 11 at 1:00 PM or Thursday, Sept. 15 at 7:00 PM.)

The presentation will be a hybrid event – Prof. Smith will be in person at First Parish, but interested attendees can participate via Zoom webinar.
