Sustainability is one of our spiritual values
August 24, 2024
Have you seen our newest set of lawn signs? They read, “Our church is Solar Powered – 86% of our power is generated onsite – If we can, you can!” (The last one has the URL for Weston Power Choice, in the hope that others will consider their sustainable energy options.)

sustainability is a spiritual value
We believe that sustainability and reducing our impact on the planet are spiritual values. We believe in the interconnectedness of all creation and the sacredness of nature. We are privileged to serve the planet as stewards and caretakers; this sacred responsibility requires us to make choices that show respect and reverence for the earth.
Here are some of the ways in which First Parish works to be more environmentally-conscious and sustainable:
- Solar Panels – 86% of our power is generated onsite through the solar panels installed on our church school roof.
- Reduce / Re-use / Recycle – First Parish tries to reduce our carbon footprint as much as possible, re-uses materials and resources, and recycles material in our offices, kitchen, and classrooms.
- Interconnected & Interwoven – We talk about sustainability and climate change in our worship services, sermons, children’s programs, and adult education programs. We consider historic & Biblical teachings about stewardship, and discuss our spiritual beliefs about sustainability.
