Geoff Wieting at organ

Organ Recital Presented by First Parish Organist Geoffrey Wieting

  • Date: Sunday, May 14, 2023
  • Time: 2:30pm5:00pm
  • Location: First Parish Sanctuary, 349 Boston Post Road, Weston, MA 02062

To celebrate the return of in-person services and musical performances – as well as the arrival of spring and Mother’s Day – Geoff Wieting will offer an organ recital on Mother’s Day at 2:30 pm in the First Parish Sanctuary. Some of his musical selections were influenced by the remembrance of his predecessor at First Parish and former teacher, the late Terry Decima.

Though it was collaborative piano, not organ, that Geoff studied with Terry, both musicians had and have eclectic interests in music of nearly all genres. Thus the recital will feature music ranging from the end of the 16th century to the beginning of the 21st, with composers from Germany, the Netherlands, Scotland, and France, running the gamut from the intellectual rigor of the High Baroque to more playful, spring-inspired fare to lush Romanticism to a stunning fusion of Latin dance rhythms, jazz, and modern organ composition techniques. In chronological order, the composers will include Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck, J. S. Bach, Felix Mendelssohn, Charles-Marie Widor, Alfred Hollins, and Andreas Willscher.

A reception will follow the recital.
All are welcome.  A free-will offering will be gratefully received.
