An alumna of the First Parish Children's Music program herself, soprano Gwendolyn Coburn is thrilled to return to FPCW as Director of Children's Music. Gwen currently is pursuing dual masters degrees in vocal performance and pedagogy at the Boston Conservatory. She earned her Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Massachusetts – Amhers, where she was awarded the Ornest undergraduate voice award.
While at UMass, Gwen performed in a variety of genres with multiple ensembles; from Johanna in Sweeney Todd, to operat scene work as Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), to soprano soloist in Beethoven's Choral Fantasy. Most recently, Gwen performed as a soprano and gospel soloist on the UMass chamber choir's tour of Europe. In addition to her UMass credits, Gwen has also performed as Giuletta (Les Contes d'Hoffman) with the Franco-American Vocal Academy. Other scene work includes Adele (Die Fledermaus) with the Frost School of Music in Salzburg, as well as Susanna (The Marriage of Figaro) and Zerlina (Don Giovanni) with the New England Conservatory Opera Studio.
Gwen has experience teaching middle school and high school students, as well as preparing students of MMEA district auditions. She hopes to help choir members develop confidence and a love of music!
