This year we ask that all parents of Church School children volunteer to help with our many exciting programs. The following is a list of volunteer opportunities. Please check off three of these items. Beverly Dillaway, Director of Religious Education, will contact you with your assignment, schedule and responsibilities. Thank you !

Team Teacher – Work in groups of 2-3 other adult volunteers to teach individual grades (Kindergarten through Grade 7 "Neighboring Faiths") for 4 to 6-week thematic blocks (Sept. 9, 2012 - June 2, 2013, 10:00 am - noon); curriculum, orientation and training provided by DRE Beverly Dillaway. Teachers are assisted by H.S. Classroom Aides.

Winter Wonders – Assist DRE with new five-week peace and social justice unit for three grade groupings (Jan. 6 – Feb. 10, 2013) – storytelling, music, games, fundraiser craft, famous UUs

Hunger Banquet – Help prepare menu for end of Winter Wonders unit, a fundraiser for the Brackett Refugee Education Fund (Feb. 10, 2013)

Church School Reporter/Photographer – Assist in gathering information about and photographing (preferably digitally) grade-level activities and special events for posters, bulletin boards, website and Parish Post entries.

Junior Choir Coordinator–Grades 1-5 – Work with Junior Choir Director Dana Schnitzer to communicate with parents about choir rehearsals/performances and coordinate rotation of parent-provided supervision (and robing for performances) on Sundays for Choir members. Rehearsals usually are Sundays from 9:30 - 10:10 am in Sears Chapel.

Youth Choir Coordinator–Grades 6-12 – Work with Youth Choir Director Dana Schnitzer to communicate with parents about choir rehearsals/performances. Rehearsals usually are Sundays from 12:00 – 1:00 pm in the Parlor. Also help with a tea in the Parlor following Christmas Vespers at 4:00 pm on Sun., December 16, 2012 and Maundy Thursday communion service, March 28, 2013, during Easter Holy Week.

Holiday Weekend Programs for All Grades (in the Parish Hall) – Join DRE Beverly Dillaway from 10:30-11:30 am; help with related projects and brief Chapel service

First Sunday of Lent – winter public school vacation (Feb. 24, 2013)
Earth Day – spring public school vacation (Apr. 21, 2013)

UU Partner Church Project – Pen pal activities with the Sunday School students in Torda, Transylvania, Romania (seasonal).

Pancake Breakfast Helpers– Help buy supplies, order fruit platters, cook sausages/bacon & flip pancakes, make coffee, handle table set-up and kitchen/Parish Hall cleanup for this annual fall All-Parish event when daylight savings time ends on Nov. 4.

All-Parish Christmas Dinner Middle & High School Recruiter – In early November, coordinate with Committee Chairs to recruit kitchen helpers and servers from Grades 6-12 for Friday, Dec. 7. Contact students via e-mail or phone with reminders about duties, attire and schedule.

All-Parish Christmas Dinner Children's Entertainment – Coordinate with Committee Chairs to plan and supervise magician or clown entertainment, ornament crafts, and snacks provided for children through Grade 5 during adult social hour on Friday, Dec. 7.

Christmas Pageant Coordinators– Assist high school co-directors with script selection, props, rehearsals and publicity (Oct./Nov.). Help unpack stored costumes and inventory (early December). Ensure there are enough appropriate, clean costumes and props for each grade. Sort and repack costumes for attic storage after the Pageant during worship on Dec. 16. Note: Pageant Parent Helpers are needed for all grades for rehearsals on Sunday, Dec. 9, and Saturday, Dec. 15, to be sure there is coverage for every class plus help with costumes, props, and crowd control.

Community Service Projects – Assist with publicity & work on class projects during year:

Teddy Bear Picnic & Knitting Lesson Project for All Ages (Oct. 21) [sponsored by Knitters and Stitchers; RSVP to Marcia Matthysse required]
Christmas wish granting for Bristol Lodge Family Shelter (Nov. 4 - Dec. 9)
Delivering and stocking shelves with Thanksgiving food collection at Weston Council on Aging's Food Pantry (Nov. 18)
Winter Walk to benefit HEARTH to help end elder homelessness (Dec. 2)
Bake cookies for Church School sale during Weston 300 Winter Fest (Sat., Jan. 12, 2013)
Help the Outreach Committee and Grade 7 sponsor a "Beyond Shelter" Party for current and former residents of the UU Urban Ministry's Renewal House – assist with lunch prep, gift bags for children and children's activities (Sat., Feb. 2, 2013)
Meal preparation for Bristol Lodge Soup Kitchen (any fourth Wednesday of every month) – contact Mary Menino to volunteer or for more information
Toiletry Drive & Kit Assembly and Sandwich Making for The Outdoor Church's ministry to the homeless (late winter 2013)
Pet Needs Drive for Buddy Dog Humane Society and "Blessing of the Animals" service (April 28, 2013)
Craft, bake and/or plant sale to benefit Heifer International Project hosted by Grades 4 & 5 (Sun., June 9, 2013)
